TUSK Safety and Comfort

Is TUSK comfortable and safe to use?

When working with a knife it is key to feel a firm grip and to know that the knife and your hand form a solid unit as well as feeling comfortable enough to work for long periods. To achieve this many elements of TUSK work together.

First of all, it has the right weight. At 0.77 lb. TUSK is a light knife for its size but not too light because some weight is needed for heavy tasks like chopping. And it has the perfect balance for its size, centered but a little forward to help when chopping. Both factors make TUSK feel quick and powerful in your hand.

But when talking about security and comfort, the key element is the handle. TUSK has an ergonomic handle with soft curves that adapt exactly to any size of hands, even wearing gloves. Knives with finger grooves in the handle may seem comfortable but the truth is they probably won't fit your hand exactly and it will be a nuisance. Besides, they don't allow an easy reverse grip. The shape of TUSK's handle is proven to be comfortable and safe in all grips.

Micarta scales are completely rounded so it has no hurting edges or hot spots.

The firm grip is improved by the material. The Micarta handle provides a solid grip even when wet, cold or hot. And the scales are firmly mounted with three steel screws, so in case you lose a screw you still can use the knife with two of them.

If you lose all the screws you could still use knife without a handle; it wont be very comfortable but the body is thick enough for you to do it. Or even better, you could use some paracord and take advantage of the exclusive eight notches around the body to form a new paracord handle.

Those anti-slip notches around the handle profile, along with the wide jimping on the top of the blade, prevent your hand from slipping from the handle. The jimping and the generous finger choil allow the thumb and the index finger to rest in different positions during different grips, providing you with more control when doing small tasks.

And finally TUSK has three perfectly designed handguards to prevent your hand from slipping to the blade when stabbing the knife. The top handguard is low so it doesn't become a hot spot (like what happens with other knives) and the low one is wide and pronounced, so it holds your hand firmly. And the pronounced rear guard keeps your grip while chopping.

In addition to all that, TUSK has a simple feature that only a few knives have and that drastically changes its behaviour. It has two lanyard holes. This small detail totally changes the experience of chopping with the knife. When you chop with a knife it tends to get away from your hand and even with the best grip you need to reposition it regularly. But, when you place the included paracord lanyard through the two lanyard holes, it surrounds your hand and becomes impossible to lose the knife and you won't need to reposition it.

Safe sheath

The sheath is obviously a key element when talking about safety and comfort of a knife.

It must protect you from the knife, protect the knife against the elements and hits and make it easy to wear it and use it.
